Gex moves (or rather, slithers) very smoothly, and the enemies are all imaginative - you will be attacked by all kinds of movie stand-ins, ranging from sumo wrestlers to zombies, all of whom are easily taken out with a whip of your fearless lizard's tail. The game does share similar charms to Earthworm Jim, Crystal Dynamics' most popular game. Your job: fight your way through five zany worlds with themes based on various old B-movies. In Gex, you play a cocky 20th century gecko with an attitude who has been sucked into his television by Rez, an evil creature whose idea of torture is subjecting innocent reptiles to reruns of sordid TV shows. This concept was cut from all versions of the game.Probably Crystal Dynamics' least successful release, Gex is a decent platformer that tries too hard to emulate Earthworm Jim in playability and humor. Upon breaking the Power-UPs ball, a bug will appear and Gex would have to eat them to attain a powerup in a similar fashion to its sequels.Planet X levels and the Bonus levels haven't been implemented into this build. The Cemetery remote sprite is the only remote present in this build. The most of the boss battles are incomplete and lack most of their functionality. This is ultimately cut from all versions of the games after this build. While, they are selectable, they don't do anything.

The Pause screen doesn't pause the game, but opens an menu called the Gex-Ray.The Options menu shares the same text as the HUD display which is different in the final. The Results Screen, Options Screen and Title Screen is completely different from the final build. There's a cut Dragonfly power-up which is absent in the final.Debug mode is enabled by default, and it works almost the same as in the final.Title cards for both levels and maps haven't been implemented yet.Music and sound is absent from this build.
